May Food News
First, a big thank you to all those who at the last Wine and Food Evening gave their permission for photos to be taken during the evening.
As I indicated at the time this was to support the detail I was forwarding to the Drinks Business as part of the Discover The Origin competition for independent retailers. I am happy to report that they loved the photos and the concept of the evenings, and my window display as it happens, and so I have been told we are now one of the three finalists! As a finalist we (Nick - my husband and I) are going on an all expenses paid trip to London being put up in a boutique hotel, having dinner at Quaglino's, being taken to the theatre and, of course, attending the London International Wine Fair and being there for the presentation on the Wednesday 19th May. Wish us luck!
Now I have another favour to ask...
One of our lovely customers has put us forward for the Deli of the Year award being run by Olives et al. As well as having to send them detail about our store, our 'deli attitude' and other detail and send them photos and leaflets and anything else we can think of we also need you the customer to vote for us. It could be worth your while - two lucky customers (nationwide) will get to go on a holiday to Spain along with folks from the winning deli. You can pick a card up in store or vote online at www.delioftheyear.co.uk - before the end of June!

Winning such a competition should give us extra publicity; hopefully even partaking will be good for publicity one way or another, and either way it may help to increase our customer numbers. As much as we love you all we still need a larger customer base (footfall) if we are to constantly look for new products and ensure good turn round on all those goods with dates on. So please both vote and spread the word about what we have to offer and why you like us being here!

Another new item in my diary this year which may be of interest to you is that I have been invited to Wincanton to be a judge at The Guild of Fine Foods Great Taste Awards for two days (14th/15th June). I don't know what I will be tasting but I'm sure we can review this list afterwards andd see what I should stock and what you may also like to try - so watch this space!

Back in Abingdon the Farmers' Market is back in the Market Place a week on Friday (21st May). third Friday of the month as usual, and as it is Barbeque month they will be bbq-ing some of the local goodies at the Farmers Market to hand out as samples. The new owner of The Broadface will be doing the bbq-ing thereby giving a hint of what he can produce in the pub and Added Ingredients will have a stall next to him with samples of many of our local chutneys, pickles, mustards to accompany your bbq goodies. We will also have a stall on the Market Place on Saturday June 12th for Environmental Day.
That's all for now
